SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Dylan Thompson tossed a complete game as the Sioux Falls Canaries (30-55) edged the Saltdogs (44-40) in front of 3,259 fans at The Birdcage Friday night.
The Saltdogs are now one game back of Sioux City for the Central lead with 16 to play.
Thompson (4-1) allowed just an unearned run on four hits (one in the final five frames) with seven strikeouts and two walks to earn the victory.
The Canaries tied the game on a Darwin Perez ground-rule double in the fifth and took the lead with an unearned run in the seventh.
Matt Shepherd pitched six innings, allowing a run on four hits with seven strikeouts for the Saltdogs, taking a no-decision.
Brandon Jacobs went 0-for-4 to snap an 11-game hit streak and three-game homer streak.
