LINCOLN – The Lincoln Saltdogs and the American Association jointly announced today that Saltdogs right-handed pitcher Carlos Pimentel is the American Association’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week.

Pimentel earns the award following a stellar start on Wednesday, June 7th against the Sioux Falls Canaries.  The 27-year-old allowed just one hit over eight innings to help the Saltdogs to a 1-0 win.  He struck out a season-high 12 batters compared to just two walks.  He used 111 pitches to dispatch of 28 batters.

The Dominican Republic native has been dominant for the Saltdogs in the early part of the season.  He is 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA in four starts.  The Saltdogs have won all four games that Pimentel started.  The righty has 29 strikeouts in 25 innings, good for the fifth most in the league.

He didn’t earn the win in Wednesday’s outing because the game was tied 0-0 when he was pulled.  The Saltdogs ended up winning 1-0 in the 11th inning to complete their fifth straight walk-off win at home.  Michael Wagner and J.R. Bunda combined to throw three hitless innings of relief to limit Sioux Falls to just one hit in the 11 inning game.

The last Saltdogs hurler to earn Pitcher of the Week honors was Lindsey Caughel on August 28, 2016.

Pimentel is next scheduled to pitch tomorrow, June 13th at Fargo-Moorhead.  The Saltdogs face Fargo tonight at 7:02 PM with coverage beginning at 6:30 PM on ESPN 1480 and saltdogs.com.

The next Saltdogs home game is Friday against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling (402) 474-2255 or visiting Saltdogs.com.  For the latest information on the Saltdogs follow the team on Facebook and Twitter/Instagram @saltdogsball.
