LINCOLN, NE — The Lincoln Saltdogs and the American Association jointly announced today that left-handed pitcher Casey Crosby’s contract was purchased by the Minnesota Twins.
Crosby is the 52nd Saltdogs player sold to an MLB organization and the 29th since 2011. He is the fourth Saltdogs player to get picked up in 2017, following LHP Cesilio Pimentel who was signed on August 11th.
Crosby made his Saltdogs debut on August 5th against the Kansas City T-Bones and retired all three batters he faced, including two by strikeout. The southpaw appeared out of the bullpen in 16 regular season games and allowed just five earned runs over 16.2 innings pitched. He struck out 17 batters on the way to posting an outstanding 2.16 ERA. Opponents hit just .193 against Crosby. He pitched a scoreless inning in the Saltdogs’ division-clinching win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on September 1st.
The 29-year-old hurler made three starts for the Detroit Tigers in 2012, picking up a 1-1 record. He spent seven seasons in the Tigers’ system and was 28-26 with a 3.93 ERA. The former 5th round draft pick did not register an official inning in 2015 or 2016 before resurfacing with the Saltdogs this year.
The Saltdogs will play their 18th season of baseball in 2018. For offseason information on the reigning Central Division Champions, follow the team on Facebook and Twitter/Instagram @saltdogsball.
