LINCOLN — The Wichita Wingnuts (45-32) erupted for seven runs in the eighth to blow open a close game and defeat the Saltdogs (31-46) 9-1 at Haymarket Park Wednesday night.

Wichita batted around in the eighth, tallying the seven runs on six hits with two home runs to take a 9-1 lead.

Derek Blacksher (7-4) tossed 6 2/3 terrific innings, allowing one run on just two hits while walking two and fanning a season-high nine.

Justin Edwards (4-6) pitched seven-plus, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking one to suffer the loss.

New Saltdogs third baseman Bryan Pounds stroked a RBI double in the seventh to account for Lincoln’s lone run.

The Wingnuts crushed three home runs in the victory to avoid the sweep.
