LINCOLN — The Saltdogs (31-45) used some early firepower to build a big lead and held on with great relief work to topple the Wichita Wingnuts (44-32) 7-4 at Haymarket Park Tuesday night.

Jimmy Rohan whacked a solo home run and Mike Provencher bombed an impressive three-run shot to left center to give the ‘Dogs a 4-0 first-inning advantage.

Lincoln would add three unearned runs in the second, highlighted by consecutive two-out RBI singles from Stephen Holdren and Provencher.

Brandon Sinnery (3-0) tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits to pick up the win. Five relievers combined for 3 1/3 shutout frames, with P.J. Zocchi working the ninth for his 19th save.

The Wingnuts got a run in the third and three in the fifth to make things interesting.

Rohan finished the night 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Provencher went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

The teams are back at it Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. as the Saltdogs look for their first sweep of the season. Justin Edwards (4-5, 5.44) will take on Derek Blacksher (6-4, 5.23). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
