LINCOLN — Ryan Wiggins launched a go-ahead three-run homer but the Sioux City Explorers (42-38) battled back to beat the Saltdogs (41-38) 4-3 in front of 3,410 fans at Haymarket Park Sunday evening.
Wiggins deep fly gave Lincoln a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Sioux City first baseman Ino Patron ripped a two-run double in the eighth to put the X’s in front.
Matt Shepherd (3-8) pitched valiantly, allowing four runs in eight innings over 124 pitches but suffered the loss.
Tyler Urps went 2-for-4 to extend his hit streak to 11 games.
Brandon Jacobs went 2-for-4 with another double.
Cody Forsythe (9-4) yielded three runs in seven innings to earn the win. Rob Wort worked a scoreless ninth for his third save.
The ‘Dogs now trail Sioux City by 1/2 game for the Central lead but are tied in the loss column.
