LINCOLN — The Saltdogs signed OF Austin Darby, a recent four-year starter at Nebraska, to his first professional contract Thursday.
Darby played for the Huskers from 2012-15, appearing in 215 games with 200 starts, and ranks in the top 20 on the school’s all-time hits list with 226.
He finished his Big Ten career with a .291 batting average, 33 doubles, nine home runs, 108 RBI, 112 runs scored and 26 stolen bases.
After hitting .324 in 42 games his first year, Darby was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team in 2012.
Born in Tampa, Fla., the 23-year old went to high school in Colorado Springs, garnering state player of the year honors from the Denver Post.
Darby becomes the second former Husker to sign with the Saltdogs in as many months, joining three-time All-Big Ten infielder Pat Kelly.
