The Lincoln Saltdogs are pleased to announce the signing of INF D’Angelo Jimenez, an eight-year MLB veteran who is expected to take over as the starting second baseman beginning Tuesday night in Sioux City.
Jimenez made his big league debut in 1999 for the New York Yankees and played most recently in the Majors in 2007 for the Washington Nationals.
The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native sports a career MLB average of .263 with 36 home runs and 105 doubles in 641 games.
Jimenez blasted a career-high 14 home runs in 2003 for the Cincinnati Reds. His impressive ledger also includes big league time with the Padres, White Sox, Rangers and Athletics.
The 34-year old played for Yucatan of the Mexican League in 2011, where he hit .321 in 35 games. Jimenez played for Minnesota’s Triple-A affiliate in Rochester in 2010 and has spent the last two seasons in Indy ball or the Mexican League.
Jimenez will hit sixth in the lineup and start at second base as the Saltdogs take on the Explorers in Sioux City Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.
Infielder Jordan Price was released to clear a roster spot for the veteran Jimenez.
