LINCOLN – The Lincoln Saltdogs and the Winnipeg Goldeyes announced a trade today that sends right-handed pitcher Josh Laxer to Winnipeg in exchange for RHP Cameron McVey.
The 6’5” McVey brings five seasons of professional experience to the capital city. He spent three seasons in the farm system of the San Francisco Giants before moving to the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2015. The Glendora, California native pitched in 39 games for the Goldeyes in their run to the league championship last season.
McVey boasts a career 9-9 record with a 3.74 ERA over 158.2 innings pitched. Last season, he was 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA over 37 innings pitched. He owns an impressive 2.51 strikeout to walk ratio for his career and averaged 10 strikeouts per nine innings last season. McVey has not pitched in 2017.
Laxer joined the Saltdogs in 2017. He appeared in four games and totaled a 5.78 ERA. He tossed 4.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits. The Ole Miss graduate walked two batters and struck out three while collecting one save.
The trade comes just four days before the Saltdogs and Goldeyes are set to square off in a three game series.
