LINCOLN, NE – The Lincoln Saltdogs announced today that they acquired right-handed pitcher Brad Orosey in exchange for a player to be named later from the Sioux City Explorers last night. The Saltdogs also traded RHP Carlos Pimentel, who was on the Inactive List, to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and placed infielder Tommy Mendonca on the IL.
Orosey pitched for the Saltdogs last season. The 28-year-old was 4-3 with a 4.15 ERA over 40 appearances in 2016. He struck out 49 batters compared to just 15 walks. He was traded to Sioux City on November 11, 2016.
The righty has pitched in 31 games for the X’s this season. He is 3-4 with a 4.34 ERA over 49.2 innings pitched. He has 57 strikeouts and 20 walks on the season.
Orosey has spent his whole career in independent leagues. Over six seasons he owns a 23-20 record with a 4.46 ERA. The Houston-native went to Texas Lutheran University.
Pimentel heads to Fargo-Moorhead to complete an earlier trade. The right-hander was placed on the Inactive List on August 7th. He was 7-4 with a 4.89 ERA over 14 starts for the Saltdogs. The 27-year-old has Triple-A experience in parts of four seasons.
Mendonca is moved to the IL after battling hamstring, elbow and knee injuries for much of the season. When healthy, the veteran compiled a .291 average with six home runs and 28 RBIs over 49 games.
The rosters are now locked in for all teams in the American Association. The Saltdogs have the league’s best record at 55-33. The team is five games ahead of both Gary SouthShore and Kansas City in the Central Division standings with 11 games remaining.
The Saltdogs try to clinch a series win over Sioux City on Saturday night. First pitch is at 6:45 PM with coverage beginning at 6:15 PM on ESPN 1480 and saltdogs.com.
