FARGO, N.D. — Stephen Holdren spanked a grand slam but it was not enough as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (48-25) downed the Saltdogs (29-44) 9-5 in front of 4,263 fans at Newman Outdoor Field Saturday night.

Holdren’s impressive blast came with two outs in the top of the seventh, and drew the ‘Dogs to a 7-5 deficit at the time.

RedHawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings and held on to the lead wire to wire, for their 13th consecutive home victory and eighth straight over the Saltdogs this season.

Tyler Herron (7-3) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits to earn the win. Tommy Palica (2-7) went five, allowing five earned on eight hits while striking out seven to suffer the loss.

Holdren finished the night 2-for-4 with the grand slam. Sean Smith and A.J. Miller each posted multi-hit games as well.

The teams play the series finale Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Ryan Sheldon (5-2, 3.89) is slated to pitch against Alex Caldera (8-2, 3.41). Radio coverage begins at 12:30 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
