GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats (19-16) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 11th to walk off and defeat the Saltdogs (18-17) 6-5 in front of 3,969 fans at U.S. Steel Yard Saturday night.
Gary capitalized on three walks plus an intentional walk to tie the game, then Jarred Mederos delivered the game-winning single to right.
Both clubs had a good chance to take the lead in the ninth. A base-running blunder cost the Saltdogs, and a brilliant decision to pitch out on a squeeze play helped them force extra innings.
The Saltdogs are now 0-4 in extra-inning contests, and fall out of first place in the Central for the first time in 2016.
Rene Leveret went 2-for-5 with a home run.
Gary tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth.
Casey Barnes pitched six solid innings, allowing just two runs but took a no-decision.
Taylor Black (3-2) scooped the win in relief. Nigel Nootbaar (1-1) yielded two runs to take the loss.
The Saltdogs used all six relievers in their bullpen for the first time this season.
Lincoln looks to avoid the sweep Sunday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. RHP Matt Larkins is expected to face RHP Karl Triana.
