FARGO, ND – Bennett Parry didn’t allow a run in eight innings of work and the Lincoln Saltdogs (57-36) cruised to a 7-1 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (53-41) at Neman Outdoor Field on Tuesday.
The Saltdogs win put them 4.5 games up on Kansas City and 5.5 ahead of Gary SouthShore in the Central Division standings with six games left.
Randolph Oduber backed up Parry with a solid day at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBIs and a run scored on a two-run homer.
Curt Smith walked once but was pinch hit for when he was 0-2, putting an end to his 19-game hit streak. It was the third longest streak in franchise history. He is still two hits away from his 1000th career hit.
The Saltdogs opened the scoring in the top of the third. Ivan Marin singled to bring up Juan Martinez. The right fielder blasted a two-run homer to put the Saltdogs in front. Christian Ibarra singled in the next at bat to keep in going. Two batters later, Oduber singled through the right side of the infield to make it 3-0.
Lincoln went to the long ball again in the top of the sixth. Oduber smoked his two run homer over the left field fence to put the Saltdogs up by five runs. It was his team-high 17th home run of the season.
The Saltdogs tacked on runs in the eighth and ninth innings on four total hits to get a seven-run lead. Brandon Jacobs got his first triple of the year in the eighth.
Casey Crosby allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Fargo-Moorhead triple to complete the scoring.
Parry allowed just four hits in eight innings. He struck out eight batters compared to three walks.
The Saltdogs have outscored the RedHawks 14-2 and outhit them 23-8 over the last two games.
The Saltdogs go for a series-clinching win over Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday. First pitch in the first game is at 7:02 PM with coverage beginning at 6:30 PM on ESPN 1480 and saltdogs.com.
