LINCOLN — After throwing a shutout last Wednesday in Trois-Rivieres, Saltdogs' LHP Kevin McGovern was named American Association Pitcher of the Week by Pointstreak, the league's statistics provider Monday.

McGovern went the full nine innings July 16, allowing just six hits while striking out seven and walking one to earn the victory against the Aigles of the Can-Am League.

The 25-year old from Philadelphia was making just his second start for the Saltdogs, after being acquired from Trinidad (Colo.) of the Pecos League July 8.

McGovern is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA for the Lincoln, and is slated to pitch Tuesday night at Haymarket Park as Lincoln opens a three-game series with the Amarillo Sox.

The southpaw had been 5-2 with a 3.81 ERA in nine starts for Trinidad, with an eye-popping 90 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings.

McGovern is the third Saltdogs player to earn weekly honors in 2014, joining RHP Marquis Fleming and 1B Ian Gac (June 2).

Lincoln opens a 10-game home stand Tuesday night at 7:05 against Amarillo, Kansas City and Grand Prairie after completing its nine-game journey, during which it went 5-4, against Can-Am League competition.
