LINCOLN — Shairon Martis turned in another quality outing and Jon Smith homered as the Saltdogs (14-10) topped the Laredo Lemurs (13-11) 5-2 in front of 2,869 fans at Haymarket Park Monday afternoon.
Martis (4-2) pitched six innings, retiring the final 10 batters he faced, striking out seven and walking none to earn the win.
Smith’s two-run homer, his fifth, gave the ‘Dogs a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
Laredo tied the game on a third-inning balk.
The Saltdogs then rallied for two with two outs in the fifth, getting RBI singles from Luis Alen and Smith.
Brad Orosey pitched two scoreless innings of middle relief, striking out Denis Phipps with two runners in scoring position to end the seventh.
Evan Reed allowed two hits in the ninth but ultimately got the job done to book his fifth save of the season.
