LINCOLN — Rene Leveret and Ryan Wiggins each went deep, and the Saltdogs (12-9) continued their run of brilliant pitching in a 7-0 shutout of the Laredo Lemurs (12-9) in front of 6,059 fans at Haymarket Park Friday night.
Matt Larkins (3-0) pitched six innings, allowing six hits with three strikeouts and two walks to earn the win.
Saltdogs pitchers have thrown 25 consecutive scoreless innings, and the defense has played error-free baseball for five straight contests.
Leveret mashed a long home run to lead off the second inning, his fifth of the year.
Wiggins clubbed a lead-off shot the following frame, his first.
Lincoln busted open the game with a five-run rally in the sixth, using four hits and four walks.
Jeff McKenzie entered with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth and finished the game with 1 2/3 perfect innings.
The clubs continue the series Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Ryan O’Sullivan is expected to face RHP Danny Moskovits.
