LINCOLN, Nebraska – Greg Minier allowed two runs over six innings to pick up his eighth quality start, but the Saltdogs were swept in a 6-2 loss to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Haymarket Park on Wednesday night.

Minier scattered six hits with just one walk and nine strikeouts, but the ‘Dogs gave up two in the 7th and two in the 9th – dropping a fifth consecutive game.

The RailCats (30-42) opened the scoring when Jesus Marriaga hit a two-run single.

The Saltdogs (32-40) got on the board when Randy Norris scored on Rayder Ascanio’s double-play ground ball in the 3rd. Josh Altmann’s 12th homer of the year tied the game in the 4th.

Marriaga broke the tie with a two-run double in the 7th inning. In the 9th, Marriaga drove in his fifth run with a single and Chris Burgess made it 6-2 on an RBI groundout.

Skyler Weber hit leadoff for only the second time this season and extended his hitting streak to a season-best six games with a single in the 3rd inning.

Jonathan Cheshire allowed the go-ahead double from Marriaga and took his second loss of the year. David Zoz tossed a scoreless 8th inning, while Zach St. Pierre allowed two runs – one earned – in the 9th.

The ‘Dogs will spend Thursday off at home before beginning a three-game series in Fargo on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
