FARGO, North Dakota – Ryan Long went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBIs, and the Lincoln Saltdogs evened the series with a 9-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Wednesday night.
Long gave Lincoln (32-31) a 9-2 with his three-run homer in the 8th inning – his 13th homer of the season – and he has 13 RBIs over five games on the road trip.
The ‘Dogs took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning after Edgar Corcino’s fielder’s choice opened the scoring and Zak Taylor hit a two-out double to score Corcino later in the inning.
David Vidal hit his third homer of the trip – a two-run shot in the 3rd – to give Lincoln a 4-0 lead in the 3rd, and Vidal is now 13-for-20 during his five-game hitting streak. The ‘Dogs added two more on a pair of two-out RBI singles from Ryan Long and Vidal in the 4th.
Dylan Kelly made it 6-1 on an RBI single in the 4th, and Alex Boxwell’s solo homer made it a 6-2 game in the 5th.
Long’s blast was Lincoln’s 40th homer of the year, and the ‘Dogs are now 3-2 against the RedHawks (37-28) this season.
Rookie starter Ben Wereski allowed just one run over four innings and has now allowed just one run over 6.2 innings to begin his career, while Jake Hohensee earned his first win of the year after allowing just the solo homer over two innings. Carson Lance went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the 7th, while Garett Delano tossed two scoreless innings and now has 4.2 shutout frames to start his pro career.
Justin Byrd’s 12-game hitting streak came to and after he walked twice, while Zak Taylor went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and Yanio Perez broke an 0-for-11 with two singles.
The ‘Dogs and RedHawks play the finale on Thursday afternoon. First pitch time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at noon on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
