CLEBURNE, Texas – Christian Ibarra had a two hits – including a leadoff homer – to extend his hitting streak to a season-high six games, but the ‘Dogs allowed 10 unanswered runs in a 10-1 loss to the Cleburne Railroaders at The Depot on Tuesday night.
Ibarra opened the scoring with his eighth homer of the year on the second pitch of the game, but after Cleburne tied the game on an RBI groundout in the bottom-half of the 1st, the Railroaders scored seven times on seven hits across 13 pitches to begin the 2nd inning.
Hunter Clanin led off the 2nd with a homer, Ryan Brett had a two-run double, Chase Simpson had a two-run single and John Nester had a two-run homer.
The Railroaders added two more in the 6th inning with Simpson’s RBI double and Zach Nehrir’s RBI single.
Kyle Kinman, who entered with a 3.00 ERA, gave up a season-high eight runs on 10 hits over 4.2 innings. Josh Norwood gave up two runs on three hits over 1.2 innings, while Tyler Anderson and Cameron McVey each worked a scoreless inning of relief.
Curt Smith’s team-high 11-game hitting streak came to an end, while Josh Mazzola’s stretch of seven consecutive games with a hit to begin his ‘Dogs career also ended. Along with Ibarra, Randolph Oduber extended his streak to six games with an 8th-inning single.
The ‘Dogs have now lost six consecutive road games, and Game 2 is scheduled for 7:06 p.m. on Wednesday. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
