LINCOLN, Nebraska – Josh Altmann hit his team-leading sixth home run, but the ‘Dogs lost 12-1 to the Sioux City Explorers at Haymarket Park on Wednesday night.

Altmann’s two-out homer cut Sioux City’s (22-11) lead to 7-1 in the 3rd, but the X’s added three more in the 4th and two in the 8th, handing the Saltdogs (15-16) their fifth straight loss.

Edgar Corcino had two more hits and extended his hitting streak to eight games, while David Vidal also walked twice. Patrick Adams had a single in his first start of the series, and Justin Byrd walked for a second consecutive game.

John Richy allowed seven runs on 10 hits over three innings, and Greg Minier allowed three runs on four hits in two innings. Jake Hohensee had two shutout innings – stretching his scoreless streak to 5.1 innings – and Gunnar Buhner pitched for the second time this year, allowing two runs with three strikeouts over two innings.

Sioux City starter Joe Riley earned his first professional win, allowing one run over six innings. Creighton alum Jonah Smith made his pro debut, pitching a scoreless 7th inning. Matt Quintana tossed a scoreless 8th, and Brandon Brosher pitched a scoreless 9th.

The ‘Dogs have lost eight straight to Sioux City, and the series finale is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Thursday. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
