LINCOLN, Nebraska – Nick Schulz had three hits and hit his fifth homer in August, but that was Lincoln’s only run in a 6-1 loss to the St. Paul Saints at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
Schulz hit a solo homer to break up the shutout in the 7th inning – his second of the series – and also added a double, infield single and a walk. All five of Lincoln’s runs in the series have scored on homers.
St. Paul opened the scoring on John Silviano’s RBI single in the 1st inning before Chesny Young made it 4-0 with a three-run homer in the 4th.
After Schulz’s homer, Brady Shoemaker hit a solo homer in the 8th and Josh Allen hit an RBI triple in the 9th.
Lincoln’s Ricky Knapp allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts over six innings.
Martire Garcia tossed a 1-2-3 7th inning before Gregory allowed the solo homer in the 8th. Tyler Anderson allowed the RBI triple in the 9th.
Lincoln has now lost three consecutive games, and will try to avoid a sweep tomorrow night. In the 19 years the clubs have played each other, St. Paul has never swept a series at Haymarket Park.
Game three of the series and the finale of a nine-game homestand is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
