LINCOLN, Nebraska – Josh Altmann went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer, but Lincoln’s rally felt short with a chance to sweep the series in an 8-6 loss to the Kansas City Monarchs at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.

Altmann’s two-run homer came in the 1st inning after Gabby Guerrero opened the scoring with a three-run homer. Lincoln (17-17) tied the game on Gunnar Buhner’s RBI bunt single in the 2nd.

Kansas City (20-15) regained the lead on Jan Hernandez’s three-run homer in the 4th inning.

With two outs and nobody on in the 5th, Forrestt Allday hit his third homer of the year before Altmann doubled and Ryan Long tied the game with his second homer of the series.

The Monarchs regained the lead on a wild pitch and an RBI single in the 6th, and Kansas City held on for the first win over Lincoln this season.

Greg Minier got his first professional start and allowed three runs over three innings. Carson Lance allowed three more in the 4th and 5th, while Jason Seever allowed two runs over 0.1 inning.

Carter Hope, Tyler Anderson and Jake Hohensee combined to toss 3.2 scoreless innings to end the game.

Lincoln snapped Kansas City starter Nick Travieso’s 15-inning scoreless innings streak, but Elroy Urbina tossed three shutout innings before Carlos Diaz earned his sixth save.
