LINCOLN, Nebraska – Ben Wereski allowed two runs over six innings, but the ‘Dogs had just six hits in a 3-2 loss to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Haymarket Park on Friday night.

Wereski took his first loss as a professional, but now has a 2.74 ERA through his first five starts out of Rutgers.

Lincoln (42-36) fell behind when Tom Walraven opened the scoring on a leadoff homer in the 2nd inning. Gary SouthShore (32-47) added to the lead with Jose Mercado’s RBI double in the 5th.

The ‘Dogs loaded the bases with nobody out in the 5th, but only scored on Justin Byrd’s one-out sacrifice fly.

The RailCats made it 3-1 with Daniel Lengua’s sacrifice fly in the 8th, while the ‘Dogs answered on Yanio Perez’s two-out RBI single in the bottom-half.

Lincoln put the tying run on with Skyler Weber’s one-out single in the 9th, but Edgar Corcino struck out looking and Garett Delano bounced into a fielder’s choice to end the game.

David Vidal walked twice, while Justin Byrd when 2-for-4 with an RBI. Perez also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Forrestt Allday had a walk and a single.

Josh Norwood allowed one run on two hits over two relief innings, and Tyler Anderson pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

Gary SouthShore’s Josh Vincent allowed just one run over 4.2 innings in his second straight start against Lincoln, while Jack Eisenbarger allowed one run over three innings. Tasker Strobel worked a four-out save and the RailCats evened the season series at two.

The ‘Dogs and RailCats will continue the three-game series on Saturday morning at 11:05 a.m. – a game moved to accommodate the Garth Brooks concert at Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. Pregame coverage will begin at 10:35 a.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
