LINCOLN, Nebraska – Ryan Long went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two stolen bases, but the Lincoln Saltdogs allowed eight unanswered runs in an 8-2 loss to the Kane County Cougars at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.
Long had one of 10 Lincoln (12-11) walks, and the ‘Dogs tied a franchise record with seven stolen bases – just five days after they stole seven times against Houston on Tuesday.
The ‘Dogs had just two hits – tied for their fewest in a game this year – and Kane County (10-13) snapped Lincoln’s three-game winning streak.
Keenan Bartlett allowed six hits and two walks with six strikeouts over four scoreless innings, and he’s now up to 15 scoreless innings over three starts this year.
Patrick Adams walked two times, and Forrestt Allday also walked twice. Justin Byrd extended his on-base streak to 17 games with a 9th-inning walk.
Joel Huertas allowed two runs without recording an out, while Jake Hohensee gave up a two-run homer in the 5th and was pegged with his third loss of the year. Tyler Anderson allowed two runs in the 7th and Carter Hope allowed three solo homers in the 8th. James Pugliese, pitching in a non-save situation with the day off Monday, worked a scoreless 9th.
The Saltdogs now have a day off Monday before opening a three-game series against Houston at Haymarket Park on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
