WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Matt Cronin tossed 3.1 scoreless relief innings in his Saltdogs debut, but the ‘Dogs fell 10-4 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park on Saturday night.
Cronin took over for Kyle Kinman, who allowed seven runs over 3.2 innings, and the rookie right-hander struck out six batters in his first game since pitching with the Houston Apollos in 2021.
The ‘Dogs took a 1-0 lead on Justin Byrd’s bloop double in the 1st, but Deon Stafford Jr. – who hit a grand slam last night – hit a two-run homer in the 2nd.
Josh Altmann added two with a single in the 3rd, but Kinman allowed five runs in the 4th and the Goldeyes would lead until the end.
Altmann added a sacrifice fly in the 5th – his fifth RBI of the series – but the Goldeyes added three in the 8th and held on for their fourth straight win over the ‘Dogs.
Byrd’s double extended his hitting streak to a season-best eight games, while Randy Norris went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven.
Welington Dotel and Matt Goodheart each had two hits, and Skyler Weber went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored out of the nine-spot.
The ‘Dogs have lost four straight for the first time this year, and the series concludes on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
