LINCOLN, Nebraska – Josh Altmann hit a three-run homer, Steffon Moore capped a six-out save, and the Saltdogs held on for an 8-7 win over the Kane County Cougars at Haymarket Park on Thursday night.
Altmann’s homer gave Lincoln (22-20) a 6-3 lead in the 5th inning, and Steffon Moore struck out four over the final two innings to earn his fourth save of the year.
After Altmann’s homer – his seventh of the year – Garett Delano worked a bases-loaded walk and Randy Norris added an RBI single to give Lincoln an 8-3 lead.
Kane County responded to Lincoln’s five-run 5th with four in the 6th. After De La Trinidad walked with the bases loaded, Lombardozzi hit a three-run double.
Kane County took the lead on Ernie De La Trinidad’s RBI double in the 2nd. Steve Lombardozzi’s sacrifice fly then made it 2-0.
The ‘Dogs took their first lead since Monday when Alex Steinbach’s two-out, two-run double made it 3-2 in the 4th after Welington Dotel’s RBI fielder’s choice got Lincoln on the board earlier in the inning.
Lincoln salvaged a split of the four-game series with Kane County after dropping the middle two games. The ‘Dogs scored eight runs after plating just six runs over the previous seven games, and Lincoln is still undefeated when leading by multiple runs in any game this year.
The ‘Dogs will hit the road for a six-game trip that begins on Friday night in Fargo, North Dakota. First pitch against the RedHawks is scheduled for 7:02 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
