SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota – RF Zane Zurbrugg went 2-for-5 with his third homer, and the ‘Dogs beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-4 at Sioux Falls Stadium on Saturday night.

Zurbrugg hit a three-run homer as part of a four-run 6th inning that gave Lincoln (43-49) an 8-1 lead and the Saltdogs held on to snap a six-game losing streak and keep the pace in the West Division playoff race.

LHP David Holmberg earned his 100th professional win, allowing four runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts over 5 and 2/3rd inning. Holmberg is 7-2 this year and the ‘Dogs are 8-2 when he starts.

Lincoln took a lead on a three-run homer from 1B Connor Panas – his second homer of the series and 19th of the season – to open the scoring in the 3rd inning.

Sioux Falls (47-46) answered on a solo homer from RF Hunter Clanin in the bottom of the 3rd before LF Aaron Takacs extended his hitting streak to a season-high five with a first-pitch homer in the 4th to give Lincoln a 4-1 lead.

Zurbrugg hit a three-run homer in the 6th to make it 8-1 after CF Nick Anderson had singled in an insurance run earlier in the frame. Zurbrugg has three homers this year – two at Sioux Falls Stadium – and extended his hitting streak to five after missing four games with an illness.

1B Mike Hart made it 8-4 with a three-run homer in the 6th, but RHP Devin Conn came on to relieve Holmberg and tossed two scoreless innings before LHP David Zoz got the final four outs in order.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 1:35 on KFOR FM 101.5/1240 AM.
