LINCOLN — Stephen Bougher threw 144 pitches, allowing just three singles in nine innings as the Sioux Falls Canaries (35-57) beat the Saltdogs (32-50) 5-0 in front of 4,243 fans at Haymarket Park Saturday night.
Bougher, a Papillion native and former Saltdog, retired 14 of the final 15 hitters he faced in his masterpiece. The 24-year old struck out four and walked four.
Chase Cunningham (0-3) allowed three runs on 10 hits in seven strong innings, striking out one and walking zero. Cunningham has turned in four quality starts in his first five professional outings.
Sioux Falls scored runs in each of the first two innings and did not look back.
Curt Smith, Juan Medina and Mike Gilmartin had the base hits for the ‘Dogs.
After Sunday, the Saltdogs will be off for the first time since August 4.
