LINCOLN — The American Association announced its 100-game schedule for the 2017 season, and the Saltdogs begin their campaign May 19, with the Haymarket Park opener set for May 25.
The Saltdogs start with a six-game road trip at Kansas City and Sioux City before returning to Lincoln for their May 25 home opener against the league’s newest member: Cleburne (Texas) Railroaders.
All Monday-through-Saturday home games begin at 6:45 p.m. – 10 minutes later than last season – except for two matinees in August.
The 10 Sunday home games in 2017 will begin at 2:05 p.m., moved up from the previous 5:05 standard.
“We are very excited for the 17th season of Saltdogs baseball,” club President/GM Charlie Meyer said. “Last season was a tremendous improvement and we look forward to making a run at another championship in 2017.”
Lincoln will host Gary SouthShore August 21 on “Total Solar Eclipse Day,” with a special noon start time. For roughly 90 seconds at 1:02 p.m., the game will enter an “Eclipse Delay” so fans and players can enjoy the rare phenomenon.
The All-Star break will take place July 24-25, with the “midsummer classic” and festivities hosted by Ottawa Champions of the Can-Am League.
Other home highlights include: nine Friday night and Saturday night games; only five Monday games; LPS “Kids Rock the Park Day” August 23 vs. Gary SouthShore, an 11 a.m. start.
