SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Ryan Zimmerman pitched a four-hit shutout as the Sioux City Explorers (18-6) beat the Saltdogs (8-17) 5-0 in front of 1,428 fans at Lewis and Clark Park Tuesday night.
Zimmerman (3-1) needed just 94 pitches (69 were strikes), he did not walk a batter and struck out six to get the victory. The ‘Dogs advanced a runner into scoring position just once.
Luis Chirinos (2-3) went seven innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits to absorb the loss.
Mitch Canham singled in the fourth inning to extend his hit streak to 15 games.
Jon Gaston went 2-for-4 in the losing effort.
The Saltdogs have scored just one run in regulation since Friday night’s 7-6 victory at Wichita.
Game three of the four-game series is Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Moises Melendez (0-0, 3.86) is expected to face RHP Jeff Marquez (3-1, 2.38). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
