SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Cory Morales hit a bloop single in the bottom of the 10th that dropped in to give the Sioux Falls Pheasants (8-8) a 3-2 walk-off win over the Saltdogs (8-9) at The Birdcage Sunday afternoon.
The Pheasants had runners on second and third with one out in the last of the 10th before a Morales pop up to shallow right dropped in between Saltdogs defenders, allowing Al Quintana to score and the game to end.
Ryan Sheldon tossed six strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six but did not factor into the decision. His counterpart Mitchell Clegg went eight innings, allowing two runs on eight hits while fanning five.
Dan Cooper (1-0) worked a perfect 10th to earn the win. Brandon Cooney (0-1) allowed a run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.
Quintana launched a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Birds a 2-1 lead. Stephen Holdren tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the top of the third.
Joe Spiers had three hits, including two doubles, with two stolen bases and two runs in the losing effort.
The Saltdogs open up a four-game series in Lincoln Monday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
