KANSAS CITY, KS – The Kansas City T-Bones notched seven-straight hits to generate six runs in the first inning and cruised to a 7-1 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs on Wednesday night.
Tyler Herron took the loss for Lincoln (22-16) after allowing seven runs over six innings. Lucas Irvine earned the win for tossing five shutout innings for KC (22-14).
The T-Bones jumped on Herron in the first innings. Todd Cunningham started a streak of seven consecutive hits with a one-out single. Over the streak, KC tallied three doulbes and four singles. Dexter Kjerstad and Mason Davis picked up two-RBI knocks in the final two hits of the streak. The seven hits came over a span of just 17 pitches. At one point, the T-Bones notched hits on three straight pitches and four hits over five pitches. It was 6-0 after the first inning.
Herron settled in after the first. The Saltdogs starter recorded four scoreless frames including a stretch of seven straight batters retired. He faltered in the sixth, though, letting up a run on an RBI double from Cunningham.
Meanwhile, Lincoln’s offense didn’t generate any support. The Saltdogs tallied a nine-inning-low four hits in the game. The team’s lone run came in the ninth inning on a solo home run from Randolph Oduber, his first since returning to the Saltdogs last week. He has hit safely in all eight games since being re-signed.
Austin Robichaux and Brad Thoutt each tossed scoreless innings of relief for the Saltdogs.
The Saltdogs try to avoid the sweep on Thursday. First pitch against the T-Bones is at 7:05 PM with coverage beginning at 6:35 PM on ESPN 101.5 FM 1480 AM and http://www.espn1480.com/lincoln-saltdogs-baseball/.
