LINCOLN — Former Saltdogs hurler and Baseball America Top Prospect Brandon Sinnery’s contract was purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday.

The Saltdogs have had 14 players signed by a Major League Baseball organization since 2011, the most of any club in the American Association.

Sinnery dazzled as a true rookie out of the University of Michigan in 2012. The 6-foot-4 right-hander went 5-1 with a 2.62 ERA in seven starts for the Saltdogs after being acquired in a July trade from London (Frontier League).

In the latter stages of the campaign, Sinnery only got stronger, twirling back-to-back shutouts in late August. The Worcester, Mass. native allowed just eight hits and three walks, striking out 12 over those 18 innings to execute arguably the most dominant stretch by any American Association pitcher in 2012.

Overall for the two teams in his rookie campaign, Sinnery compiled a 9-2 record with a 3.08 ERA. Perhaps most impressively, he sported a better than three-to-one strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Sinnery was named a Baseball America Top-10 prospect in the Independent ranks back in October. He joins former battery-mate Chris McMurray in the Arizona organization, who was sold to the D-backs last August.
