ST. PAUL, Minn. — The St. Paul Saints (55-16) plated seven runs in the first and moseyed on to complete the series sweep in a 9-2 victory over the Saltdogs (26-44) in front of 9,307 fans at CHS Field Friday night.
Angelo Songco blasted a three-run homer to center and Anthony Phillips ripped a two-run triple down the first base line in the opening frame.
The Saltdogs score their runs in the eighth inning in a rally that began with an Aaron Payne opposite field double.
Kramer Sneed (11-2) worked seven scoreless innings to get the win. Jesse Smith (2-6) allowed eight runs – seven earned – on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings to suffer his sixth road defeat.
Payne and Eddie Young – who entered in the second inning for Curt Smith – each had two hits for the ‘Dogs.
Angelo Songco drove in four runs for the second time in the series and leads the league with 69.
Dan Child and Mackenzie King closed out the game in relief for Lincoln, allowing just a tough-luck run on two hits in 3 1/3 innings.
