SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Kyle Ruwe baffled the Saltdogs (28-23) all night long, spinning a five-hit shutout as the Sioux Falls Canaries (19-32) blanked Lincoln 9-0 to salvage the four-game split at The Birdcage Tuesday night.
Ruwe (5-5) went the full nine against the club he began his career with in 2005, allowing just five hits while striking out four and walking nobody to earn the win.
The Canaries jumped all over Matt Bywater early, striking for seven runs in the first two innings. Bywater (2-3), who was making his first start since June 21, allowed six earned on nine hits in three innings.
Nick Van Stratten, Jared Clark and Kevin Dultz all homered for the Canaries.
Travis Parker pitched very well in relief for the Saltdogs, going four innings while allowing just one run.
Brian Embery led the way offensively for Lincoln, going 2-for-3 with a double.
The Saltdogs return home to Haymarket Park Wednesday night to open a four-game series with the Amarillo Sox. Pete Parise (5-3, 2.97), who threw a one-hitter last Friday in Lincoln, will toe the slab in the series opener.
