Martinez began his professional career in the Cuban National Series on the Lenadores de Las Tunas in 2013-14 and played through 2015-16. He then made his way through the Cubs minor league system, reaching as high as Double-A Tennessee. Martinez played in Mexico and in foreign winter leagues through 2020 and 2021, and he’s beginning his first year of independent professional baseball in 2022.
