KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Pete Parise turned in a quality outing, Stephen Douglas had a big night at the plate, and the Saltdogs (4-3) played strong defense in a 6-3 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (2-5) in front of 3,948 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark Wednesday night.
Parise (2-0) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out one and walking two to earn the win.
After the Saltdogs tallied a run in the first, Douglas added to the lead with a three-run home run to right, his first of the year, to make it 4-0 Lincoln.
The 'Dogs added runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 5-0 and the ninth to the score to 6-3.
R.J. Rodriguez worked a scoreless ninth inning to notch his third save of the season. Aaron Meade (1-1) allowed five runs in five innings to suffer the loss for the T-Bones.
Douglas finished 4-5 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base. Daniel Carroll, Dennis Raben, and Yasel Gomez all turned in multi-hit efforts as well in a 12-hit night for Lincoln.
The Saltdogs play their home opener Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. against the defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes (6-0). Nathan Moreau (0-0, 1.80) will pitch for Lincoln against Mark Hardy (1-0, 0.00). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
