Lincoln, Nebraska — The American Association of Professional Baseball has announced that Haymarket Park has been named the league’s Playing Surface of the Year for the 25th consecutive season. The award was selected through a vote of the Association’s executives, managers and media personnel.
“Winning Playing Surface of the Year is a tremendous honor and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire grounds crew,” said Haymarket Park Director of Grounds Kyle Trewhitt. “I want to specifically thank Joseph Boutain, Gunnar Kale, and Braeden Sunken for their commitment to maintaining a first-class field every day. We’re proud to receive this recognition and grateful to everyone who helps make it possible.”
Haymarket Park has earned the award every season since the field’s construction was completed in 2001 and every year since joining the American Association in 2006. The recognition comes after another busy year for the Haymarket Park grounds crew, who maintained the field through a demanding 2026 schedule.
In addition to hosting the regular-season schedules of the Lincoln Saltdogs and Nebraska Huskers, Haymarket Park hosted the NCAA Baseball Lincoln Regional over Memorial Day weekend, the Savannah Bananas and Firefighters on June 11, and the American Association of Professional Baseball All-Star Game presented by Carbliss and Jeremiah Johnson Brewing Company Home Run Derby on July 15.
Beyond baseball, Haymarket Park offers a variety of spaces for events of all kinds. The Pepsi Home Run Terrace and Picnic Pavilion provide ideal settings for company outings, client appreciation events, family gatherings or simply enjoying a night at the ballpark with friends.
For younger fans, the Ameritas Fun Zone and Buck Beltzer Playground add even more to the experience, helping make Haymarket Park a destination that appeals to fans of all ages.
