LINCOLN, NE – The Lincoln Saltdogs will celebrate the start of the new baseball season with the new head football coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The Saltdogs announced on Wednesday that Scott Frost will throw out the first pitch on Opening Day, Thursday, May 17th.  Additionally, the first 1,500 fans will receive a commemorative Scott Frost Saltdogs baseball jersey.  The jerseys will be distributed in a first come, first served basis.  Gates open at 6:00 PM with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 PM.

Fans that want a guarantee of a Frost jersey can go to https://saltdogs.com/frost/ and purchase a $25 package that includes a Lower Reserved seat and a Frost jersey of their size.  There are 500 package deals available and fans who purchase them are asked to enter the game through the 1st Base gate.

“We are excited to host Scott Frost at Haymarket Park on the opening day of our season,” Saltdogs President/GM Charlie Meyer said.  “He has generated so much excitement for athletics in Lincoln and we hope to celebrate that alongside the start of the Saltdogs season.”

Frost was announced as Nebraska’s next head football coach in December.  He led UCF to a perfect 12-0 season in 2017 and an 18-7 record in two seasons in Orlando.  Frost is a Nebraska native, graduating from Wood River High School, and starred at quarterback on the Huskers 1997 National Championship team.  Frost made his public Huskers coaching debut at the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 21st.

The Saltdogs are set to begin their 18th season in Lincoln.  The team is coming off of a 58-41 season in which they won the American Association’s Central Division Championship.  The ‘Dogs play home games at Haymarket Park, which has been named the “Best Playing Field” in the league for 17 straight seasons.
