LINCOLN — The Winnipeg Goldeyes (34-23) went bonkers in the eighth inning and went on to take the rubber match from the Saltdogs (23-35) 10-4 at Haymarket Park Wednesday night.
The six-run rally in the top of the eighth was highlighted by a three-run home run by Kyle Day that hooked high above of the right field foul pole.
Todd Privett (4-3) tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just five hits to earn the win. Tommy Palica (1-5) surrendered eight runs on nine hits in seven-plus frames, striking out seven and walking three to take the loss.
Mike Provencher and Sean Smith each turned in multi-hit nights in the losing effort.
Derek Coverstone, 21-year old true rookie making his first professional appearance, delivered a pinch-hit RBI to highlight the Saltdogs’ four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth.
The ‘Dogs are traveling Thursday and will open up a weekend series in El Paso Friday night at 8:05 p.m. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
