LINCOLN, Nebraska – Nick Schulz went 2-for-4 with a double, and the ‘Dogs held off the Sioux Falls Canaries in a 5-4 win Saturday night at Haymarket Park.

Schulz had his fourth multi-hit game of the year, and Lincoln held on for a sixth consecutive home win – the longest in 2019.

The ‘Dogs opened the scoring on Daniel Herrera’s RBI triple in the 3rd – his first career triple. Lincoln later scored another on Ivan Marin’s RBI single and Cody Regis’s RBI double.

The Birds scored a pair in the 5th. Graham Low drove in Sioux Falls’ first run of the series with a groundout before Brett Vertigan’s RBI single made it a one-run game.

Lincoln restored a two-run lead with Curt Smith’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 5th before the Canaries got it right back when Jordan Ebert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 6th.

Regis added another run with a sacrifice fly in the 7th, and the Canaries were within a run on Mitch Glasser’s RBI single before a game-winning double play in the 9th.

Jake Hohensee got his sixth start of the year picked up his fourth win after allowing two runs over five innings. Austin Pettibone gave up a run in the 6th, Martire Garcia pitched a scoreless 7th and Shairon Martis got his second save of the year – both against Sioux Falls – in the 8th and 9th.

Christian Ibarra’s team-best 14-game hitting streak ended, but Ivan Marin’s hitting streak now sits at seven and Tyler Moore has hit safely in six straight.

The season series ends Sunday evening. First-pitch time from Haymarket Park is scheduled for 5:05 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 4:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
