SIOUX CITY, Iowa – LHP Steffon Moore recorded a six-out save and the Saltdogs held on for a 4-3 win to take the series over the Sioux City Explorers at Mercy Field on Sunday evening.
Moore retired the final six Explorers in order after a leadoff double in the 8th inning, and the ‘Dogs (6-9) earned their first series win on Sunday.
Lincoln took a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. 3B Luke Roskam extended his hitting streak to six games with an RBI single that opened the scoring, and LF Aaron Takacs hit a two-out, two-run double to extend the lead. The ‘Dogs improved to 5-2 when scoring the first run.
DH Matt Goodheart added a run with an RBI single in the 4th after 1B Yanio Perez extended his hitting streak to a team-best seven games with a one-out double.
3B Matt Lloyd hit a two-run homer against RHP Zach Keenan in the 5th inning – the only two runs Keenan allowed across five innings in his first start of the season.
The Explorers (10-5) got within one in the 7th inning. C Jack Kelly opened the inning with a triple and scored when DH Jake Sanford extended a five-game RBI streak with a run-scoring groundout.
Moore allowed a leadoff double to RF Vince Fernandez, but then retired the final six batters of the game – including three strikeouts – to become the fourth Saltdog with a save this year.
The ‘Dogs return to Haymarket Park for a quick three-game series against the Kansas City Monarchs beginning Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 on KFOR FM 101.5/1240 AM.
