LINCOLN, Nebraska – Cody Regis hit a walk-off, two-run homer and the ‘Dogs beat the Kansas City T-Bones 4-2 in 12 innings at Haymarket Park on Saturday night.
Regis came up after Forrestt Allday led off the 12th with an infield single, and hit Lincoln’s first walk-off homer of the year and his 13th of the season.
Kansas City opened the scoring in the 1st after Casey Gillaspie drove in a run with a groundout and Shawn O’Malley made it 2-0 with a run-scoring single.
For the second consecutive night, Josh Mazzola tied the game in the 8th. Allday and Curt Smith reached on one-out singles against T-Bones starter Dylan Baker — who tossed a season-best 7.1 innings – before Mazzola broke the shutout bid with a two-run single.
The ‘Dogs had the bases loaded with nobody out in the 9th, but Christian Ibarra bounced into a 6-2-3 double play and Cody Regis struck out to end the inning.
Christian Ibarra doubled in the 3rd, extending his hitting streak to a season-best nine games. Curt Smith’s season-high 11-game hitting streak ended with an 0-for-3 that included a hit-by-pitch and a walk.
John Brownell tossed six innings and allowed just two runs, his team-best ninth complete game in his 13th start of the year. Austin Boyle tossed two scoreless innings after Martire Garcia pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th.
The ‘Dogs have won three consecutive games and have a chance for the sweep on Sunday. First-pitch time is set for 5:05 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 4:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
