LINCOLN – The Saltdogs acquired INF Jeremy Hamilton, a former Team USA participant, Horizon League Player of the Year and a Phillies fifth-round pick, in a trade with Gary SouthShore for a player to be named later.

Hamilton is hitting .259 with 10 doubles, 14 RBI in 33 games so far in 2014, all with the RailCats.

As a senior at Wright State University, Hamilton hit .410 with nine home runs and 49 RBI to earn Horizon League Player of the Year honors in 2008.

The 27-year old from Cincinnati was a fifth round pick by the Phillies in the 2008 MLB draft, and went on to play two seasons in the Philadelphia organization before joining the Frontier League ranks.

Hamilton played for Team USA in the summer of 2007, along with the likes of big leaguers Pedro Alvarez, Lance Lynn and Justin Smoak and others.

The deal was completed Wednesday, and Hamilton will be in uniform for the Saltdogs Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in the series opener against Wichita. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
