ROSEMONT, Illinois – Matt Goodheart drove in four runs, and the Lincoln Saltdogs took the first game of a six-game trip with an 8-5 win over the Chicago Dogs at Impact Field on Tuesday night.
Goodheart gave the ‘Dogs a lead with a two-run single in the third, and he added two more with a double as part of a six-run fourth inning that gave Lincoln an 8-1 lead.
Ryan Long began the six-run frame with a bases-loaded walk before Josh Altmann singled in a second run. Eddy Martinez added another with an RBI fielder’s choice before Goodheart’s double. Hunter Clanin capped off the inning with an RBI single, and the ‘Dogs had their highest run total in a single inning this year.
Greg Minier got his first start of the year and allowed just one run over four innings, after KC Hobson opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the second inning.
Sam Bragg tossed 0.2 scoreless innings, and David Zoz added to his strong start in 2022 with 1.1 scoreless innings. Jonathan Cheshire allowed a run in the seventh, while Carter Hope was charged with three runs that scored in the ninth. Garett Delano retired the final two batters of the game, and the ‘Dogs improved to 3-1 to begin the year.
