LINCOLN — The Saltdogs (22-20) won both sides of a twin bill to complete the weekend sweep of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (22-20) in front of 4,428 fans at Haymarket Park Sunday afternoon.
In the seven-inning contests following Saturday’s rain out, the Saltdogs took the first game 2-0 and won the finale 6-5 on a walk-off single from Curt Smith.
Matt Larkins (5-1) pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing eight hits with six strikeouts to earn the win in game one.
Evan Reed struck out the final two batters of the game to notch his ninth save.
Lincoln scored both its runs in the first inning, getting two-out RBI hits from Brandon Jacobs and Tyler Urps.
In game two the Saltdogs took a 5-1 lead after two innings thanks to long balls from Jon Smith and Robby Kuzdale.
Brian Humphries hit a three-run homer to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth.
Kuzdale reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on an error with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
After a pitching change, C. Smith ripped a line drive down the line in left, scoring Kuzdale to win the game.
Brad Orosey (2-1) pitched 2 2/3 perfect innings of relief to earn the win.
The Saltdogs completed their first series sweep of the year and have now won four in a row.
Lincoln opens a three-game series against the Texas AirHogs Monday night at 6:05 p.m. in Amarillo. RHP Lindsey Caughel is expected to face RHP Matt Shepherd.
