FARGO, North Dakota – The Lincoln Saltdogs (34-40) swept a doubleheader from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (47-26) at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday night.
GAME 1
Rayder Ascanio broke a 2-2 tie in the 8th inning with an RBI single, and the Saltdogs held on to beat the RedHawks, 4-2, in eight innings.
Ascanio’s single scored the ghost runner Ryan Long, and the ‘Dogs earned their first extra-innings win of the year.
The RedHawks opened the scoring on Evan Alexander’s sacrifice fly in the 3rd, but Ascanio hit a two-run homer – his first as a ‘Dog – to make it 2-1 in the 4th inning.
Peter Maris led off the 6th with a solo homer that tied the game, but Matt Cronin pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th to earn his first win of the year.
Zach Keenan started and allowed one run on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts in five innings. Steffon Moore allowed one run in one inning.
The ‘Dogs snapped a five-game losing streak and won for a second time in Fargo this year.
GAME 2
Josh Altmann had three hits – including a homer – with four RBIs, and the ‘Dogs swept the doubleheader with a 5-0 shutout in Game 2.
Lincoln took a 1-0 lead on Randy Norris’s RBI single in the 4th inning, and Altmann hit a three-run homer to make it 4-0 in the 5th.
Altmann added to the lead with a sacrifice fly in the 6th and finished with the second-most RBIs in a single game this year.
Garett Delano pitched six scoreless innings, scattering six hits with no walks and five strikeouts to earn his fifth win of the year. Carter Hope pitched a scoreless 7th inning to finish the game.
Jason Rogers reached in all four plate appearances of Game 2, and he reached in seven of the eight plate appearances he had during the doubleheader. Randy Norris had four hits in the twin bill.
The ‘Dogs and RedHawks will finish the series in Fargo on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
