FRANKLIN, Wisconsin – The Lincoln Saltdogs (41-35) and Milwaukee Milkmen (47-29) completed two games on Wednesday, and the ‘Dogs won Tuesday’s suspended game 5-2 and before Garett Delano retired the first 19 batters he faced and Lincoln held on to win the second game, 4-2, in seven innings.
Game 1:
Justin Byrd went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three RBIs, and the Saltdogs evened the series with a 5-2 win against the Milkmen.
After the game was suspended on Tuesday with runners on second and third and nobody out in the top of the 3rd, Justin Byrd began the afternoon with a two-run single back up the middle to give the Saltdogs a 2-0 lead.
Yanio Perez singled in another run to make it 3-1 in the 4th, and after the Milkmen got a run back in the 5th, Byrd hit a solo homer in the 7th and drove in another with an RBI single in the 9th.
Jake Hohensee earned his fifth win of the year, picking up Kyle Kinman’s start from Tuesday in the third inning. Josh Norwood tossed a scorless 6th, Jesse Stallings a scoreless 7th inning and Carson Lance a scoreless 8th. James Pugliese worked around two singles for his 21st save.
Game 2:
Garett Delano went 19-up, 19-down before a comebacker from Logan Trowbridge ended his chance at the first perfect game in American Association history, and the Saltdogs held on to win 4-2.
Delano was two outs shy of history after starting the game with 19 consecutive outs and eight strikeouts, and he allowed just one run over 6.1 innings in his second professional start.
Carter Hope retired the last two batters of the game, and the ‘Dogs won for the 12th time over their last 16 road games.
Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Curt Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Ryan Long went back-to-back with Forrestt Allday with solo homers in the 5th. Edgar Corcino, in his second game back, hit a solo homer out to left field to give Lincoln a 4-0 lead in the 7th.
The Saltdogs and Milkmen will finish the four-game series on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM at 6:05 p.m.
