LINCOLN, Nebraska – Spencer Herrmann tossed 7.2 scoreless and one-hit innings, and the ‘Dogs tossed a third shutout in a 3-0 win over the Sioux City Explorers to snap a 12-game winning streak on Thursday night at Haymarket Park.
Herrmann, after making a spot start in Sioux Falls on Monday, allowed only a two-out double to Dexture McCall in the 4th inning along with two walks and one hit batter. He struck out five, and retired the final 12 batters he faced.
Forrestt Allday opened the scoring with an RBI groundout in the 3rd inning, and Curt Smith drove in two more with a double to right-center in the 8th inning. Smith now has 18 RBIs in his last seven games.
Austin Boyle struck out the only batter he faced, and Reese Gregory became the ninth different Saltdog with a save after he worked around a leadoff single with a pair of strikeouts in the 9th.
Christian Ibarra had a 1st-inning double that extended his streak to a season-high best game. Curt Smith now has hits in 10 straight games – one short of his longest of the year.
Lincoln snapped a five-game home losing streak and also wrapped up the 14-game season series with the Explorers.
The ‘Dogs now welcome the Kansas City T-Bones to Haymarket Park on Friday night. First-pitch time is set for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
