LINCOLN, Nebraska – John Brownell tossed six innings and allowed just two runs, but the ‘Dogs didn’t have a baserunner beyond the 1st inning in a 3-0 loss to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Wednesday night at Haymarket Park.

Brownell’s six-inning start was his 11th in 12 starts this year, and he scattered one walk, six strikeouts and 10 total hits.

Fargo-Moorhead’s Mike Tamburino went eight shutout innings with two hits, one walk and 13 strikeouts, retiring the final 21 hitters he faced. Geoff Broussard went 1-2-3 for his 17th save in the 9th inning.

Fargo-Moorhead opened the scoring on Correlle Prime’s RBI double in the 1st inning, but Lincoln had three different baserunners in the bottom-half of the inning. With two on and two out Josh Mazzola hit a line drive to center, but Devan Ahart threw out Curt Smith at the plate to end the inning.

The RedHawks added to the lead with Tim Colwell’s RBI single in the 3rd, and Leobaldo Pina worked a bases-loaded walk to add insurance in the 7th inning.

Cameron McVey gave up one run over one inning, while former RedHawk Reese Gregory tossed two scoreless innings in his Saltdogs debut.

Game 2 of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Thursday. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
